Research, Teaching and Application

Euroips has access to several Associates who can provide first class training and education in research that is compatible with a wide range of relational based counselling, psychotherapy and organizational approaches, and at the leading edge of research education in Europe.

In the 1990’s Ken Evans created three Masters programmes in psychotherapy that included a significant research component and a research dissertation. He has also devised and led a Doctoral programme in Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy to encourage clinicians in the field to engage in research related to their clinical practice. Ken has recently taught qualitative research to psychotherapists outside the United Kingdom in the Czech Republic, Norway, and Italy.

New book: Finlay, L and Evans, K (September 2009) Relational Centred Research for Psychotherapists: exploring experience and meanings. Wiley Blackwell. Dr Paul Barber is a leading exponent of qualitative research within a holistic frame, has published extensively and is currently a member of staff of a doctoral programme based in London, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Middlesex.

Joanna Hewitt Evans has recently published two research articles and  until november 2009  ran the Gestalt training programme at the Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute, UK, where research methods are a key component of the training programme. Together with Ken Evans, Joanna runs a training workshop for trainers/tutors/supervisors who wish to extend their knowledge and teaching skills in this important area. This course can be run as a one off workshop over three days or combined with a follow up 2 or 3 day workshop, if required. This workshop has been successfully delivered at training centres  in the UK, Czech Republic, Norway and Italy. It can also be arranged at our residential centre La Volee, in Normandy.

The Norwegian Gestalt Institute and the Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute are the co sponsors of  the online European Journal for Qualitative Research in Psychotherapy and several Euroips Associates are members of the editorial board. Each issue of the journal   includes 4 to 5 research articles of approximately 5,000 words, together with some smaller ‘work in progress’ and an editorial.

Manchester Psychotherapy Training Institute

A 3 day workshop led by Linda Finlay will run at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy  March  2009 and in Greece November/December 2009.

Euroips can work with a training centres own staff to teach them research methods, or with a Centres trainees. We employ a range of methods, but especially hands on experientially based approaches, that engage the learner in gaining an understanding of research while being engaged in the process of actually conducting a mini research project. A project can be conducted either individually or collaboratively with other learners.

We emphasise the need for interest and excitement in the research process, together with a commitment to ethical research that captures the imagination of the researcher and those who participate in the research project.

The training can also be arranged away from home at our residential centre in France where we build time in for time out for relaxation and sheep shearing!
